Written at an eighth grade reading level and illustrated with a few multicultural illustrations, this booklet describes in simple phrases how to care for a newborn infant. It provides a great deal of information on a range of topics including feeding, breastfeeding, circumcision, bathing, injury prevention, automobile safety, burping, constipation, umbilical cord care, immunizations, and well baby visits. Targeted to parents and caregivers, this booklet was developed with input from the American Society for Psychoprophylaxis in Obstetrics (ASPO/Lamaze) educators, physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurses , nurse practitioners, peer colleagues, and pediatricians at the Department of Pediatrics at Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital.

This 5"x7" booklet, with simple, action-oriented messages, addresses the new parents' concerns about feeding, bathing, bonding, dressing, diapering, illness, and safety of their newborn. Illustrations are somewhat cartoon-like, but still realistic, representing various ethnic groups as parents and practitioners. Fathers, as well as mothers, are shown taking an active role with infant care. Testing at an eighth grade reading level (SMOG index), main points are both color highlighted and illustrated, often followed by simple bulleted lists.

This fact sheet uses line drawings and simple text to convey a few messages about caring for a crying baby. It emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding the baby whenever the baby is hungry, as well as giving the baby a lot of love and attention. It was developed by a team of professionals knowledgeable about the target population, and was field tested by 50 people for comprehension and acceptability prior to distribution. Aimed at pregnant women and new mothers with a fifth-grade reading level, the fact sheet is written in English on one side and Spanish on the other.

Targeting all new parents, the booklet contains multicultural illustrations and is available in English and Spanish. Developed with input from focus groups, it was produced as part of the New York State Citizens Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect Pre- and Post-Natal Parent Education Program, a comprehensive effort to increase hospital and community participation in the delivery of parent education and support services.

This series of six video tapes, each 15 to 17 minutes long, offer step-by-step instructions for new parents on newborn handling techniques, diapering and dressing, calming techniques, safety, play, bath time, and care of the sick infant. The tapes are intended for use in waiting rooms, classrooms, inpatient facilities, and childbirth education classes and are available in English and Spanish. Printed handouts and teacher's guides are available. The tapes are designed to encourage and build confidence in new parents by teaching them specific skills on handling and relating to their baby. They stress how every child is different and suggest a variety low cost but safe techniques for parents to try as they learn which ones the infant prefers. This diary is designed to help the pregnant woman keep a record of prenatal care and health care of the baby up to the age of two years. Beginning pages contain space for the mother's health history and notes on her symptoms of pregnancy. Subsequent pages explain how to get prenatal care, what to expect at prenatal care visits, and key components of a healthy pregnancy. There is space to make dietary notes, track weight gain, and keep a schedule of prenatal visits. Section one ends with advice on postpartum care and family planning. Reprints are available for $2.00 per set, including a modification of the mailing page, which can be adapted for distribution by other health departments.
