National Network for Family Resiliency
Program Planning and Evaluation - An interactive Web site
Good program evaluation comes from good program planning. A new resource is available on the internet to help program planners develop an
approach to program evaluation. The Program Evaluation Development site, developed by the National Network for Family Resiliency, was
designed to help Extension Agents and Specialists develop more effective parenting education programs. However, the principles and
suggestions are applicable to a variety of intervention programs, including Early Head Start.
This interactive Web site guides the user through the following steps in developing an approach to program evaluation:
- Assess the needs and assets;
- Identify the problem or issue;
- Write goals at one or more levels;
- Write measurable objectives;
- Choose and use interventions;
- Assess immediate and follow-up outcomes;
- Report results to stakeholders; and
- Redesign program based
on evaluation results.
Plan on spending 30 - 45 minutes to complete the process. In addition to the planning process, the site offers an introduction to the various
types of outcome evaluations, the role of the stakeholders (those who have an interest in the work you do), and how one’s own values and
perspectives influence program development.
